Currently the Institute of Zoology publishes the following periodicals:

Acta zoologica bulgarica — a tri-annual journal of over 200 copies, published in April, August and December. It is published in English, and distributed in Bulgaria and abroad. It is abstracted in 23 international reference journals;

Fauna bulgarica — a series of 28 volumes on different taxonomic animal groups from the Bulgarian water and terrestrial fauna;
•
Catalogus faunae bulgaricae — a series of 6 volumes on various taxonomic groups, published in English;
• Bird Ringing Bulletin — a series of 11 bulletins published so far;
• Bulgarian Antarctic Research. Life Sciences — a series of 5 volumes.
Besides the above publications, the Institute of Zoology has published 21 volumes of articles and proceedings from scientific conferences, 26 monographs, books and textbooks, as well as 5 bibliographies of Bulgarian zoologists.
Throughout its existence, the Institute also has published the following periodicals:
• Bulletin de l'Institut Zoologique de l'Academie des Sciences de Bulgarie. Sofia, BAS published from 1951 to 1960, Volumes 1-9;
• Bulletin de l'Institut de Zoologie et Musee. Sofia, BAS published from 1961 to 1974, Volumes 10-41;
• Hydrobiology. Sofia, BAS published from 1975 to 1996, Volumes 1-40;
• Ecology. Sofia, BAS from 1975 to 1994, Volumes 1-26;
• Ornithological Information Bulletin. Sofia, BAS from 1977 to 1988, Issues 1-24;
• Works of the Institute of Zoology. Sofia, BAS from 1950 to 1960, Volumes 1-8.
In the last few years, the Institute of Zoology has had the largest number of academic publications in comparison with the other biological institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. For instance, 220 scientific papers (126 published and 94 in press) came out in 2005, and 54 of them were published in international journals. Between 2000 and 2005 the scientific results of the Institute have been cited 2 196 times, 973 in Bulgaria and 1 223 abroad.
