Celebration of the 90 anniversary of Corresponding Member Prof. Botyu Botev

On 2 December 2009 (Wednesday) at 15:00 in the assembly hall of the Institute of Zoology, BAS a celebration, devoted the 90 anniversary of the prominent Bulgarian scientist Corresponding Member Prof. Botyu Botev, will take place.

Corresponding Member Prof. B. Botev worked mainly in the fields of biology and cell proliferation, differentiation, morphology of tumours. Author of more than 250 scientific articles, he published several overview papers such as 'Individual development of the animals', 'The regeneration as a general biology phenomenon', 'Somatic cell hybridisation', 'Cellular bases of the morphogenesis'. His last book, co-authored with e Dr Margarita Topashka-Ancheva, 'The tumours as a general biology problem', published by Pensoft Publishers, was awarded the Rotary honors in the name of academician Metodi Popov in 2008.

From 1972 to 1989 he was a director of the Institute of Zoology, founder of the Ontogenesis and Morphogenesis of the Animals Department at the Institute of Zoology and its leader from 1972 to 1992.

Corresponding Member Prof. B. Botev was a longtime professor at the Higher Medical Institute, Sofia and Dean (1972-1976) of the Biological Faculty of Sofia University 'St. Kliment Ohridski'.
