A monograph receives Rotary Award in the name of the Academician Metodi Popov

14.12.2009

On 19th November 2009, the Acad. M. Popov Institute of Plant Physiology hosted the official ceremony of Rotary Annual Scientific Contribution Award 2008. The book, co-authored by Prof. Botyu Botev and Dr Margarita Topashka-Ancheva, 'The Tumours as a General Biological Problem', published by Pensoft Publishers, received the Rotary Award in the name of the Academician Metodi Popov.

The book deals with various biological aspects of this phenomenon. The tumours appear as a result of destroyed functions of the living systems and mainly of destroyed structural and functional integrity of the organisms. The tumours are widely found in nature, they appear in different forms and they can be caused by variety of factors. The authors discuss the existing rather empirical approaches to testing of preventive and medical treatment especially to chemical treatment of cancer. The authors also focus on the necessity of preventive measures to strengthen the natural protective systems of animal and human organisms, i.e., the optimal functioning of nervous, endocrine, paracrine and immune systems.
